I have identified this mentality that is rampant in business. I think that this mentality is connected with the rule in marketing that says you should always have a call-to-action; this mentality is connected with the idea that you should always tell the customer what you want them to do.
Yet this has morphed into a wave of advertising that is bossy, condescending, and sometimes even outright offensive. Sometimes you don’t know better than the customer about what the customer needs. Sometimes your product does not solve their problem – as much as you would like to sell your product to every single person and every type of person.
Instead of acting pushing, criticizing or condescending – try acting like a Great Doctor!
Attributes of a Great Doctor:
-is the first person that comes to mind when you get really sick
-You believe the doctor has solutions for your problems in the form of expertise, tests, and medications
-A Great Doctor is a GREAT LISTENER. The doctor will listen to all of your symptoms, feelings, and theories. A great doctor is great at showing sympathy and emotional support for you and every different type of patient that the doctor deals with.
-A Great Doctor often has a Great Staff, that keeps records organized, promptly follows-up calls, and the staff is just as polite and caring as the doctor.
-A Great Doctor will prescribe a remedy for your ailments, and follow-up to make sure that it works. If it doesn’t, the Great Doctor will be quick to provide you with other answers.
Format your business this way.
Educate your customers that you have the expertise, tests, and products to serve their needs.
LISTEN to your customers! Ask them powerful questions.
Maintain an organized business, and hire GREAT help.
Follow-up with the customers that you have served, and continue to serve their needs.
Market to potential customers with sympathy and prowess. Avoid being bossy or condescending.
Think about your best experience with a doctor, and mimic these lessons in your business.
I want to hear from you! Tell me about a great experience that you have had with a doctor!
